Flowers
Flowers that don't decorate: they speak. A floral alphabet between sacred and provocation.
Critical text
Flowers is the cycle where the flower stops being ornament and becomes sign. In art, flowers have always carried a weight that goes beyond their form: vanitas, fertility, death, rebirth, offering. I take them on with that weight, but I treat them without reverence.
My flowers are large, brash, they often invade the canvas. Acidic colors, stems that become bodies, petals that open like mouths. There's an explicit erotic vibration, but also an insistence on their ritual dimension. as if each composition were a small private altar.
What interests me is the contradiction: the flower is the most fragile and the most photographed thing in the world. It lives a day and stays for centuries in still lifes. Flowers is the attempt to paint this double nature without resolving it. to hold delicacy and power together.
