Packing Paper

Packing Paper is the series where protection becomes content. The paper used to wrap artworks. that marginal, invisible thing nobody looks at. is elevated to the status of pictorial support. It becomes the painting itself.

There's a short-circuit I'm interested in: the object made to guard artistic value is more fragile than the value it protects. Paper is soft, it tears, it crumples. And yet it holds my painting as if it were a canvas.

In these works I paint suspended figures. angels, falling bodies, held-back gestures. that speak with the transparency and porosity of the support. Color penetrates, spreads, never stays on the surface. Matter takes part in the mark.

Packing Paper is a reflection on value: where does the work live? In the image? In the support? In the discarded? The answer stays open. Each panel is a question about what deserves to be kept. and what we can let go.
